In this urgent and unflinching conversation, Stanford law professor Hank Greely returns to Mendelspod to address the mounting threats of the Trump administration to public science funding and the institutions that regulate medicine.
In my tiny corner of the scientific world we were taught that studies needed to collect data for at least five years before any changes could be considered statistically significant. Funding for research, as a result, needs to be in place for half a decade, if not longer, since setting up the project and winding it down upon completion needs to be supported, too. It is therefore heartbreaking and frightening to witness the dismantling of the critical infrastructure that supports important health research and maintains the health standards that we have all come to expect. I shudder to think about the amount of suffering we will see, all too soon, when our water, air, food and general health protections diminish or disappear as a result of Donald Trump’s attacks on the scientific community.
Nice one, Theral
